Field Nulling PCB coils

Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging – Magnetoencephalography Brain Imaging System

Project Overview

At the Martinos Center, I developed a groundbreaking room temperature brain imaging system, replacing traditional cryogenic cooling of magnetometer sensors. This project reduced system costs by over $500,000 while maintaining high accuracy.

PCB housing structure with the team

PCB housing structure I designed in SolidWorks. Pictured is me and my two bosses who worked with me on this project.

Biplanar PCB coil

Python simulation of the coil windings

Creating the Python simulations of the external environment with the optimization problem solved coil windings.

Final room layout with one pair of coils

Final room layout with only 1 pair of coils.

First sensor measurements

First sensor measurements showing a field of 0.5 nT in the Z direction! Revolutionary!

Article written from the Martinos Center about the accomplishments we've made.

Holding the first PCB coil

Me and my boss, holding the very first PCB coil we created.
